I was bored and wanted to do something. I was living on a Christian College Campus, and the weekend pretty much found every student bored out of their minds. As a result, a few of them found refuge walking around our beautiful campus in Southwestern Michigan and that is when I got this great idea. I pulled out a quarter and said, “let’s play a game. Every time we come up to a fork or area where we can turn, we will flip a coin. Heads this way, tails that way.”
Everyone agreed and as a result, for hours we just meandered all over the campus with no rhyme or reason. We were very Helter Skelter in our actions and to be honest, we did not get very far. We kept making this big circle. I sometimes want to ask God to show me His will by the flip of the coin. “God, if it is heads, then I will do this. If it is tails, I will go that way.” In battling against human trafficking there are decisions that have to be made all the time. Decisions that require faith and at times, money that we don’t have.
Do we buy this house? Sign a lease for that house? Do we work with this young person? Do we fly to get that person? Do we go to this country to help? Lord!!! What do we do?

As most of you know, Rainey and I work basically two full time jobs so that we can spend the rest of our time and money on making a difference in the battle against human trafficking. Many of our members do the same. We don’t hire staff; we don’t pay a publicist or PR person. We don’t have someone to go out and raise money. YET, it is not what we don’t have. It is what God is doing in spite of us.
In May of this year, a golf tournament was held in Clermont, Florida. Optima One Realty found out about us and Aimee Stanley, and her amazing team pulled it off and raised over $6000 for us. WHAT a blessing! God has always worked that way in the life of BAT. We simply put it in God’s hands, and He consistently surprises us with His grace and protection.
We want to know what God is doing, to know the right steps but we have come to understand that what God desires of us is obedience. To step when He opens up the way EVEN though we do not know all the details. He has lead us around the world, around the US and throughout Florida. People have had dreams, like minded individuals have banded together and we get to see God at work.

This January we will have been in existence for TEN years and in that time, we have helped over 1000 individuals and that does not count all the teaching and seminars we have held. We have influenced close to a MILLION people… It is hard to understand how it was possible with so few…yet…David had five smooth stones; Jesus had a few loaves of bread and some fish.
I guess the moral of the story is to go as God leads…not when you have the full picture, but when you get the nudge of the Holy Spirit. We don’t know what God has in mind, but we know that NOTHING surprises God, so He has already equipped each of us for what He is calling us to do. So, hold on. He is in control and the battle is supernatural. Thank goodness we are on the side of God almighty. Keep praying for us and if you are looking to get involved in a mission that will test your faith… let us know.
Peace out,
Doc and Rainey
