For more than 20 years, Sturgis Harley-Davidson has sold apparel and accessories, but Tuesday the location saw the sale of its first new Harley.
Used Harley-Davidson’s have been sold in the City of Riders, but there has not been a new Harley sold within city limits until this year.
Tim Sutherland, Sturgis Harley-Davidson’s sales manager, said he believes the 85th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally had something to do with the location pick.
The new bike is a CVO Pan America, designed for adventure touring.
“So, it’s an adventure bike,” Sutherland said. “So, with Sturgis and this area being such a great adventure area, selling an adventure bike is the perfect match for today.”
Sutherland added it was an honor to sell the new bike.
“I’ve owned dealerships in the past, I had sort of gotten out of the business a little bit,” Sutherland said. “I sold my stuff and retired a little bit, and when I got a phone call asking me if I’d like to be the person to sell the first ever, I’m like ‘Yeah, I’m coming out of retirement for that.’”
Sutherland said a full line of new Harley-Davidsons will be available starting Tuesday, just in time for the next rally.
